Exodus 3:7 The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. 8 So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. 9 And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. 10 So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.”
11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”
12 And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you[b] will worship God on this mountain.”
13 Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?”
14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am.[c] This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”
15 God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord,[d] the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’
“This is my name forever,
the name you shall call me
from generation to generation.
There are so many amazing events that God did with Moses that it is hard to choose what to bring into focus. With God Moses freed the Israelites, parted the red sea, delivered the 10 commandments, led them through the desert, and brought them to the promise land. Through it all God remained faithful even when the Israelites faltered. But what really ministers to my soul is when God is telling Moses his heart for his people.
- I have indeed seen the misery of my people
- I have heard them crying out.
- I am concerned about their suffering
- I have come down to rescue them
- the cry of the Israelites has reached me
- I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them.
- I am sending you
Sometimes when you are in the middle of a storm you feel isolated from everyone even in the middle of a crowd. It is so good to know and remind myself of God’s love for us. He sees me, hears me, is concerned for me and he sends a rescue for me. Thankyou Father that you make all things work together for good.
God not only knows and cares about how we are feeling but he also prepares a place for us. He tells Moses his plan to “bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey.” God was not just concerned about their safety from the Egyptians but also for their comfort. God has a plan for us and it’s not just a narrow escape from our enemies, its an abundant life.
Then to make sure they understand he tells Moses who he is. “I am who I am. I am has sent me to you. The God of your fathers. Our God cares for us deeply and is the God of our fathers, the God of Creation, the God of Nations, and the God who indeed is concerned for our well being individually and globally.
Worship
Judges 5:3
Hear this, you kings! Listen, you rulers! I, even I, will sing to the Lord; I will praise the Lord, the God of Israel, in song.
Supplies:
- TV or a music account and a speaker
- worship scarves
- instruments
Everyone needs to be up, standing on their feet, including teachers and helpers. Children naturally look to the adults in the room and mimic their behavior. Place the bucket of instruments and scarves in the middle of the room and have the children and adults pick an instrument. Start the music and encourage the children to worship the Lord with dance, instruments and song.
NOTE: Sometimes the pink scarves can cause trouble with the girls in your class. Lots of tears 😦 trying to keep a worship filled environment is difficult at this point. Either hide the offensive pink scarf or buy enough pick scarfs for each little girl.
Here are songs that your children will enjoy!
