Most people see the ten commandments and the story behind it as a story of God punishing and restricting His people. Ever sense Adam and Eve sinned God had lost His intimacy with His people. God speaks of a time throughout the Old Testament when there will be a complete sacrifice for the sin of all people. When God will again be able to have intimacy with His People of all Nations. While they waited for this sacrifice God set up a system of first fruits. The first animal born was to be sacrificed its blood spread on the alter and the fat burned. This accomplished two things one the first born of an animal is the purest form of sacrifice that could be found and two it was a heart checkup. Were the hearts of the people wanting to honor God with their first and trust Him for more? or were they fearful and too greedy to put their trust in their God?
Moses went up many times to the mountain to speak with God and several times God also invited the priest and Moses’ sons. This is God seeking intimacy with His people. The priest were full of fear and refused to go up the mountain and hear God. God called them a “stiff necked people…” The people even became more fearful and demanded Aaron to build them a God out of gold. This is a reflection of our own hearts failing.
Even though God has rescued us many times we still question whether God will help us during this new storm in our lives. When feeling trapped in a situation and seeing no relief we begin to doubt. In the Bible it is written that “Faith can move a mountain.” So many times through my life I have tried to understand what faith is and how it works. (Like it is something unattainable and I’m not doing it right or saying things the right way.) That is until I found the verse “Faith is the essence of things hoped for… “Faith at it’s purist form is hope,” and I began looking at my life through the lenses of hope and could see so many times when God had come through for me.
Worship
Judges 5:3
Hear this, you kings! Listen, you rulers! I, even I, will sing to the Lord; I will praise the Lord, the God of Israel, in song.
Supplies:
- TV or a music account and a speaker
- worship scarves
- instruments
Everyone needs to be up, standing on their feet, including teachers and helpers. Children naturally look to the adults in the room and mimic their behavior. Place the bucket of instruments and scarves in the middle of the room and have the children and adults pick an instrument. Start the music and encourage the children to worship the Lord with dance, instruments and song.
NOTE: Sometimes the pink scarves can cause trouble with the girls in your class. Lots of tears 😦 trying to keep a worship filled environment is difficult at this point. Either hide the offensive pink scarf or buy enough pick scarfs for each little girl.
Here are songs that your children will enjoy!
